Password Tests for Students

These tests are usually taken by students at or applying to universities and colleges.

The Password Skills test consists of four test modules and is run in two parts with a break in between.

Part 1: Password Reading and Writing (1 hour and 45 minutes)
Password Reading has five sections. In each section there is one task for you to complete. Tasks become harder as the test progresses. You have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the five sections.

Password Writing assesses your ability to write an essay.  You have a choice of two essay titles and should write at least 200 words in 30 minutes.

Part 2: Password Listening and Speaking (1 hour and 20 minutes)
Password Listening has five sections. In each section, there are one or more tasks for you to complete. Tasks become harder as the test progresses. Once you press the play button, it is not possible to pause or restart the recording. You will hear the recording twice. The second time you hear the recording the question or questions will appear. You have 1 hour to complete the five sections.

Password Speaking has five sections. In each section, there are one or more tasks for you to complete. You will read the question on the screen and then answer it by speaking into the microphone. Notes can be made to help prepare answers. You have 20 minutes to complete the five sections.

You may have been asked to take either the Password Knowledge test (one test module) or the Password Knowledge and Writing test (two test modules).

Password Knowledge (1 hour)
Password Knowledge has five sections. It is a sophisticated test of grammar, vocabulary and reading. You have 1 hour to complete the five sections.

Password Writing assesses your ability to write an essay.  You have a choice of two essay titles and should write at least 200 words in 30 minutes.

Password Tests for School Pupils

This test is usually taken by school pupils who are applying to independent or international schools.

Password Pupil Knowledge
Password Pupil Knowledge has five sections. It is a sophisticated test of grammar, vocabulary and reading. You have 1 hour to complete the five sections.

Password Pupil Writing
Password Pupil Writing assesses your ability to write an essay.  You have a choice of two essay titles and should write at least 200 words in 30 minutes.

Password Pupil Younger Knowledge
Password Pupil Younger Knowledge has four sections. It is a sophisticated test of grammar and vocabulary. You have 45 minutes to complete the four sections.

Password Pupil Younger Writing
Password Pupil Younger Writing assesses your ability to write a simple essay. You have a choice of two essay titles and should write at least 50 words in 20 minutes.

Password Tests for Employees

You may have been asked to take the Password Workforce Knowledge or the Password Workforce Knowledge and Writing or the Password Workforce Knowledge, Writing and Speaking test.

Password Workforce Knowledge (1 hour)
Password Workforce Knowledge has five sections. It is a sophisticated test of grammar, vocabulary and reading. You have 1 hour to complete the five sections.

Password Workforce Writing (30 minutes)
Password Workforce Writing assesses your ability to write an essay or business related task. You have 30 minutes.

Password Workforce Speaking (20 minutes)

You may have been asked to take either the Password Workforce Intro Knowledge or the Password Workforce Intro Knowledge and Writing test.

Password Workforce Intro Knowledge (45 minutes)
Password Workforce Knowledge Intro has four sections. It is a sophisticated test of grammar and vocabulary. You have 45 minutes to complete the four sections.

Password Workforce Intro Writing (20 minutes)
Password Workforce Intro Writing assesses your ability to write a simple essay or business related task. You have 30 minutes.

Password Solo Tests

If you have been sent a login code to run a Password Solo test, click on the link below to log in to take your test. Please note that login codes for tests are issued by the institution or organisation testing you and not by the Password Team.

Important! The button on this page should only be used by candidates taking a Password Solo Test. To access all other tests, you must use the desktop shortcut link or your test code will become invalidated.
  1. When the login page appears, press the “F11” function key to enable full screen viewing in Internet Explorer.
  2. Type in the test login and password you have been sent and then click “login”.
  3. Click “start”, then click “continue” on the Password test welcome page.
  4. Enter your details into the candidate details page, then click on “continue” to start the test.
  5. When the test has been completed and the log in page is displayed again, press the “F11” function key to revert back to the standard screen size and close down the browser.
